Academics meeting - Billy Barraclough

We know that pollution - including chemical pollution - is one of the key drivers of the biodiversity crisis. We've worked with academics to produce a briefing document we can use to lobby the government for change.

In April 2020, alongside colleagues at CHEM Trust, we organised a workshop for academics working in the field of chemical pollution in freshwater and marine environments. The goal was to determine the state-of-play of chemical pollution in aquatic environments in the UK.

The key message that came out of the workshop was that chemical pollution, from both historic and present-day emissions, is still impacting the marine and freshwater environments, despite a significant decrease in pollution from certain contaminants since the last century.

We've written a briefing detailing the conversations we had with academics, which we're using to lobby for a Chemicals Strategy that keeps the health of the environment at its heart.
