Join me on this very special beach clean to not only help us stop harmful litter from reaching the ocean, but to celebrate the Great British Beach Clean! You will collect vital data that we can use to bring about positive change for our seas, contributing to two databases - our 30-year strong Beachwatch Litter Database, and OSPAR, maintained by a group of countries in the NE Atlantic that work together on plastic pollution

Pay and display car park - The car park at West Beach is chargeable, and jumps from 2 hours to 24 hours in their pay brackets. To ensure that your experience is as stress-free as possible, I will begin my briefing at 09:00, with the litter collection period starting at 09:15, lasting for approximately 45 mins - 1 hour.  This will allow volunteers to take part fully within their 2 hour parking ticket if they wish to without the need to extend it.

Dress for the weather - Wear sturdy shoes and bring a waterproof jacket if rain is forecast, and layers for the cold.

Bring drinks and snacks to help keep hydrated and energy levels up, the cafe is closed for the season.

All equipment will be provided however please feel free to bring your own gloves if you feel more comfortable wearing your own. These should be thick garden-type gloves fo picking up litter.

Accessibility - We want to ensure this event is as accessible as possible. Please talk to us ahead of booking if you have any health conditions, access needs or Special Educational Needs and we will do our best to support your participation.

More on accessibility at West Beach - Access from the carpark is rocky and uneven.  The beach also has a winding boardwalk down to the beach at the other end. The gradient of the boardwalk fluctuates greatly. The beach is large pebbles.  Public toilets are at the carpark end of the boardwalk.

Also worth knowing…

What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).

What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.

Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.

46 spaces remaining - join us on the beach whilst there’s still spaces!
